Kevin Robinson
Kevin Robinson has a reputation for helping clients navigate their way through the family law process with a focus on preserving people’s dignity and their children’s welfare. Kevin has been recognised for more than nine years as a Preeminent or Leading Family & Divorce Lawyer and Parenting, Custody & Children’s Matters Lawyer in the Australian Capital Territory.
Kevin can assist clients with property and parenting disputes; the preparation of Binding Financial Agreements; dealing with company, business and trust structures in the context of relationship breakdown and working with clients to achieve a sensible and workable outcome. Kevin is trained as a Collaborative Lawyer and utilises this and other alternative dispute remedies throughout his practice.
Kevin has a keen interest in facilitating positive outcomes for children and to assist clients in achieving early resolution of their matters wherever possible. He combines empathy with a pragmatic and problem-solving approach. Kevin is on the panel for appointment as an Independent Children’s Lawyer in Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and the ACT Children’s Court.
As an AIFLAM accredited mediator, Kevin has extensive experience in assisting parties to work through property and parenting disputes. This experience is invaluable in representing the interests of clients.
Kevin is one of the few lawyers in private practice in the ACT with an extensive knowledge of the care and protection jurisdiction. He is regularly sought out to provide advice to parents, kinship carers and foster carers and has conducted numerous matters in the ACT Children’s Court.
Kevin also assists clients with estate planning and estate litigation, and in matters before the NCAT and ACAT relating to guardianship and powers of attorney.
Kevin acquired extensive skills in mediation and substitute decision making over a 15 year period with the NSW Protective Commissioner prior to practising exclusively in family law. As Acting Deputy Protective Commissioner, Kevin was responsible for managing the financial and legal affairs of approximately 8,500 people with decision making disabilities.
Kevin is a past Secretary and member of the ACT Law Society, Chair and member of the ACT Law Society Family Law Committee; a member of the Canberra Region Family Law Professionals Association; a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia; a member of the Independent Children’s Lawyer Panel – ACT Legal Aid; an Accredited Collaborative Law Practitioner; and an Accredited Family Law Mediator.
