James Drury

James was admitted as a solicitor in the ACT in early 2021; he has practised exclusively in family law since then. James joined the R + M Law team in 2026. Prior joining us, he worked at a highly regarded Canberra family law firm, where he was recognised as a Family Law Rising Star in the prestigious Doyle’s Guide in 2025.

James brings a calm and considered approach to his practice. He strives to assist clients to navigate their family law matter in a manner that is strategic, cost-effective and compassionate. He has broad experience in all areas of family law.

In parenting matters - James routinely deals with matters involving high conflict, allegations of risk, mental health concerns, relocation, alienation.

In financial matters – James’ practice is expansive; he assists clients to navigate complex financial matters involving multiple businesses and trusts, financial agreements, issues of disclosure, international assets and maintenance.

James is also able to assist clients with issues related to child support and has experience in adoption.

James routinely appears in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, the ACT Magistrates Court and the Supreme Court of the ACT. He has appeared in the Federal Court of Australia (in relation to Human Rights) and the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal (ACAT).

James holds a Bachelor of Laws (1st Class Hons) and Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Canberra. James also assists the University of Canberra as a casual academic.
